WOW Icon and former WOW World Champion, Jungle Grrrl, graces the Official WOW Podcast with her powerful presence to tease her return to the squared circle! Known for her perfectly executed splashes, Nigel Zane and David McLane gush over their favorite Jungle Grrrl moves and memories, including a historic splash off a 25 foot ladder directly onto her opponent.
Jungle Grrrl on trying out for WOW: “It was advertised as ‘athletic women for a superhero show’ so I had no idea what I was really stepping into… As soon as you said wrestling I was like I am in!”
Jungle Grrrl spoke about connecting with Terri Gold immediately during the intense WOW training period led by the legendary Selina Majors and Peggy Lee Leather. Jungle Grrrl recalled a particular training session that left her unbelievably sore, remarking that wrestling is one of those sports where you never perfect the game, there is always more to learn.
After being asked by a fan which superhero is the “one to watch” right now, Jungle Grrrl slyly answered Paola Mayfield, due to their shared Colombian heritage.
Jungle Grrrl on Paola Mayfield: “As a Colombian…I have to give some love to Paola, even though I am the original GOAT, ok!”
While WOW was on hiatus, Jungle Grrrl spent some time on the independent circuit with John Cena, The Miz, Johnny TV, among many other wrestling stars! Jungle Grrrl returned back to WOW, fought for the #1 Contender position, and then defeated the current champion, Lana Star, to become WOW’s new World Champion in 2013. Jungle Grrrl is still the longest reigning WOW World Champion, having held the title for 1300 days.
Suddenly tragedy struck, Jungle Grrrl was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, and went into treatment less than two weeks later. But cancer didn’t know who it was dealing with, and Jungle Grrrl set her mind to beating her odds and overcoming her diagnosis. Jungle founded the Endorphasm Gym to take people on a physical, but more importantly, mental journey to find and access their inner strength.
When asked if she would consider coming back to the ring, Jungle Grrrl enthusiastically replied, 100%!” David McLane quickly followed up and asked who she’d like to wrestle upon her return, and before replying, Jungle Grrrl acknowledged that there is such a fantastic pool of talent on the current roster, but admitted that there is still unfinished business with The Beast. Jungle Grrrl took the opportunity to call out another current roster member.
Jungle Grrrl on Santana Garrett: “There is still one person on that roster I still have heat with… Santana Garrett. She is the one that stripped me of my title…she didn’t even pin my shoulders to the mat… and I had to watch it from outside the ring”
Jungle Grrrl has 26 years of stories ranging from her stunning cameo in Spider-Man (2002) where she got to work with Macho Man Randy Savage, to her many rivals on the WOW roster. Check out the entire interview so you don’t miss a moment!
Jungle Grrrl on Penelope Pink: “Penelope Pink wants to claim she’s the greatest thing to ever happen to WOW, but let’s be honest, I mean, Penelope, I was here long before you”
Jungle Grrrl on WOW’s impact: “You bring something very unique and special to our audience. And still to this day there is someone that everyone can look up to and look to and say ‘oh that’s me!’ And that’s a really special thing that you don’t see with a lot of companies.”
