The Bardstown Brawler Jessie Jones stopped by the Official WOW Podcast to reminisce with host Nigel Zane and WOW Co-Owner David McLane about her early days on the roster. Selina Majors brought Jessie Jones to WOW’s purple mat in order to teach some of the young up-and-coming Superheros a little thing called respect.
Jessie Jones on her goal with Selina Majors: “As far as I’m concerned, they don’t want to respect nobody? We can beat the respect right back into everybody!”
As McLane and Zane tracked Jessie’s early WOW career, Jones proudly reminded McLane that she has the most matches with the longest undefeated streak in WOW history! With David as a captive audience, Jessie took the opportunity to revisit her missed tag title shot against Fire and Adrenaline due to McLane forcing Jones to wrestle without proper wrestling boots. McLane quickly tried to brush this off, stating the show must go on, but Jessie made her point. In the years to come, Jessie did become a WOW World Tag Champion alongside Big Rig Betty!
Jessie Jones on her missed tag title shot: “[David] allowed me to be sabotaged, and would not postpone our match, and the only reason he Adrenaline was able to get out of my armbar… was because she was able to pull my foot out from under me because I had socks, not boots, because [David] made me wrestle without gear. Remember that?”
Jessie Jones is no stranger to confrontation, as she continues to call out McLane’s actions to his face!
Jessie Jones on David McLane: “Ya’ll David don’t like me, he don’t…it’s true! He does not want me in that title contention, he won’t do it! We’ll get there don’t you worry”
The conversation changed topics and Jones shouted out her wrestling mentor, Tracey Smothers. Smothers encouraged Jessie to get into training, and the pair spent most weekdays driving to and from bookings for ten straight years. Jessie considers him closer than family, lovingly referring to him as “Pops.”
Jessie Jones on Tracey Smothers: “We were family, it might not have been blood, but we were closer than blood. He was everything.”
Jessie Jones on Tracey Smothers: “One of the greatest wrestlers and most underrated in the whole world, may he rest in peace”
Jessie Jones on Abilene Maverick: “I mean I’m just not a fan of prissy pretty girls that get into wrestling to just look cute and ain’t down for the nitty gritty part”
Jessie Jones on her cancer diagnosis: “I’ve been in professional wrestling for over 20 years and I’ve never been in so much physical pain in my life as I was after chemotherapy.”
Jessie Jones on her cancer diagnosis: “It’s so shocking to just wake up in a pile of your hair, seeing yourself fall apart, but keeping the mental tenacity of ‘I’m going to get through this, I’m going to beat this’, and I’m going to advocate, help, enlighten, and educate anybody else who has to go through this.”
