Loca, one half of the first ever WOW World Tag Team Champions: Caged Heat, joins the Official WOW Podcast to set the record straight! As the daughter of a NYPD Lieutenant, Loca learned to be one step ahead of the cops and the criminals. Everything she needed to know she learned on the streets, that is until she moved to LA, joined WOW, and had to learn the wrestling ring!
While being trained by Thug, Loca became fast friends with Delta Lotta Pain and the pair formed Caged Heat – two wrongly accused members of the Nevada State Correctional Facility.
Loca on meeting Delta Lotta Pain: “I zoned in on this one chick, she was loud… funny, cornrows, and I said that chick is the coolest. And sure enough, that was my tag team partner, Delta Lotta Pain.”
Loca on her chemistry with Delta: “I think authenticity is key, right, I think that’s why Delta and I shine the light on each other…we had our vision..that’s why we’re such a force.”
In their debut match, Caged Heat entered the arena to a chorus of boos, but after defeating Beach Patrol, fans fell in love with Loca and Delta! Caged Heat were always one step ahead of their competition, and Loca remembers turning the tables on Caged Heat’s tag team rivals, Thug’s own Harley’s Angels, by running backstage to save Selina Majors from a harsh Harley’s Angels beatdown. Thug ended up regretting teaching Loca the ways of the ring when Caged Heat went on to defeat Harley’s Angels to become the first ever WOW World Tag Team Champions!
Loca on saving Selina from Thug and Harley’s Angels: “We’re smart, we’re smart wrestlers, and remember that we were ahead of [Thug] we knew her secrets…we had to stay ahead of them. We knew that they were going to be our most challenging [opponents]…we really did a checkmate, and came out and protected Selina. I thought that was a really smart move.”
During her tenure at WOW, Loca became fast friends with referee Josh Milton. WOW takes some time to honor Milton’s legacy with a quick video package of his best moments. Loca also shouts out Jesse Hernandez for his ability to make people shine in the ring. David jokes that Loca was buttering up all the WOW referees to ensure she’d win every match!
Loca on Caged Heat strategy: “Caged Heat, we were smart, we always had something cooking… Even down to the security guard, I’m pretty sure I got that security his job there. So I always had an in, making sure people were on my side.”
After being exonerated by Sophia Lopez and leaving the wrestling world, Loca went on to act in television shows like “Weeds” and “Shameless.” Loca is also involved with an acting group called “Born to Act Players” which allows differently abled people a space to act and express themselves. Loca also hosts her own acting class called “Unmask” in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. Delta Lotta Pain also went on to stunt double for Queen Latifah, and founded a BIPOC database to help women and people of color get hired!
Loca on finding success after WOW: “There’s no shortcut to anything that you want. I worked my Puerto Rican booty off to get to the top with WOW…you have a chance to be better every day.”
Loca on Jeanie Buss: “You know Jeanie’s LA, she feels the love of the streets, she’s another smarty pants, she knows who to get on her side, she knows how to get things done; Caged Heat always did that.”
Loca on returning to WOW: “In a heartbeat I would come back.. I’m loyal to a fault… WOW has my heart it, has my DNA, and I would come back in heartbeat absolutely”
Loca on facing Roxxy Powers again: “Don’t scare me, let’s go Roxxy, take 2!”
Loca on Charlie Davidson: “I saw Charlie one time, as a civilian, and you know we’ve always had some tension, and I saw her out, and she came around the corner, and I chopped her, and she did not see that coming. Yeah, I wonder if she remembers that.”
Loca on Jeanie Buss: “I saw her eyes light up when she was like ‘Is Caged Heat here, is Caged Heat here?’ and just to see her be super excited, to see her so scared of us, and then befriend us, I think, is my [favorite].”
Loca on the culture David McLane has fostered at WOW: “I love you McLane, more than anyone, and I always say that you’ve always protected us and provided a platform for women who are strong and beautiful, and I thank Selina, and I thank Jeanie”
