Tara Strike & Ashley Blaze Emphasize the Importance of Representation

Podcast

Newly crowned WOW World Tag Team Champions Ashley Blaze and Tara Strike joined the Official WOW Podcast to celebrate their Triple Threat Tag Title match win! After fighting a tough uphill battle against Best 4 Business’ Kara Kai and Sandy Shore both in, and out, of the squared circle, Strike & Blaze came out on top. Both superheroes hail from the “Show Me” state of Missouri and are proud to represent their state as well as their culture.

Tara Strike on representation: “Being from Saint Louis means a lot to me because… you don’t really see a lot of African American women doing stuff like this. It just means a lot that even girls within my area.. They are trying to figure out ‘hey how can I be a part of this’”

Ashley Blaze on representation: “When I came up into wrestling there wasn’t a lot of women on my side [of the state] that were good or were wrestling or had the drive and ambition that I did…we get to represent Missouri together and we get to represent both of our cities.”

Nigel emphasized the tag team champion’s sentiments, noting that even though there were female wrestlers dating back to the 50s and 60s, WOW’s global footprint expands visibility for women’s wrestling far beyond any other company in the business.

Strike and Blaze endeared themselves to fans tuned into the livestream, earning the nickname “Midwest Mafia.”

Strike on inspiring the next generation: “We just want to show them that you know, you can do this too. Holding the belt, for Ashley and I, is a huge responsibility… to all the little girls out there, ya’ll can do it too…representtion matters so much, especially within our community.”

Blaze on her friendship with Tara: “Most women need to have that core person in their life, and I’m just very lucky I have Tara.”

Blaze on the WOW locker room: “I came from a different locker room prior, and there is nothing, and I mean so far in my life, there is nothing like the WOW women’s locker room…I will never forget that.”
